Mansfield Christmas Lighting Fund was set up in April 2002 in response to a decision by Mansfield District Council not to put up any Christmas lights due to budget cuts.
This was totally unacceptable to the business community and a committee was set up by local businessman, Bill Taylor, with the idea of ensuring that Mansfield would have Christmas Lights for the future.
Since then the fund has gone from strength to strength raising money and helping to facilitate more and more elaborate switch on events.
The fund, over the past 4 years has paid for the switch on events that are traditionally held on a Thursday evening. Past events have included: Santa arriving via steam train, 2 to go performing live, spectacular fireworks displays, and Bob the Builder.
The fund has also help purchase and replace many lights in and around Mansfield Town Centre. So far to date, over £70,000 has been spent on replacing and purchasing new lights to decorate our town.
2002 - £15,000
2003 - £25,000
2004 - £40,000
2005 - £45,000
